The tech powerhouse, Salesforce.com, recently announced that the company is planning on entering the human resources space. This diverges from the standard approach of the organization which focuses primarily on marketing and sales.
The Director of Product Marketing notes that they are going to transform their existing technologies and platforms to be applicable for improving the success of the employees within the organization. Specifically, Salesforce has constructed what they call the Employee Journeys feature which well assist in the onboard, as well as the continued management of employees. Additionally, they have worked to develop the Human Resources Helpdesk software, which utilizes Salesforce’s existing customer service software. This will provide a platform for HR teams to answer specific questions or issues from employees.
Employee Communities is another feature incorporated into this suite of tools. This can be utilized to host more extensive conversations between the Human Resources team and employees. Salesforce has also supplied a platform with which HR personal can track certain relevant metrics with their HR Analytics tool.
The organization is well-aware of its shortcomings and inexperience in certain areas. This is why Salesforce enlisted the help of an impressive collection of partners to help with this project. It is important to remember, however, that this is the first version of this product. Salesforce philosophy regarding platform releases is to try to put a product out there as quickly as possible, and then improve upon the product over time. That said, Salesforce is offering highly refined products that are repurposed for HR rather than sales. It will be interesting to see how this plays out over the course of the next few months. Employee dissatisfaction, according to data collected and released by Salesforce, largely stems by the inefficacy of internal communication and systems. Any CEO can tell you how widespread discontentment can quickly unravel an organization and its profit margins.
